Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some common questions about who we are, what we do, and why we do it!
What is UndergradBooks?
What is UndergradBooks?
UndergradBooks (UGB) is a free service that allows college students to buy and sell textbooks to each other.
How does it work?
All you need to do is sign up for a free account and add books you would like to sell through us. Other students from your school can then search for your books and contact you via email about purchasing them. You can also search for books that you need to buy from your peers.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! UndergradBooks is and will continue to be free. Being college students when this website was drawn up, we know what it's like to not want to spend your money. Therefore we have made this website free with absolutely no hidden fees or charges for anything...ever.
What do you do with my personal information? Will you sell it?
Never! We respect your privacy and will never share or sell any personal information unless required by law.
We will not sell your information to make us money; we only want to save you money on textbooks.
How much can I save?
It is possible to save hundreds of dollars through UndergradBooks. We cannot make any guarantees on how much you will be able to save, because we don't know what books you need to buy and sell. As is stated above, UndergradBooks is free because we as students do not like paying the outrageous textbooks prices that schools and other websites charge. Most campus textbook stores will buy books at prices much lower than they are worth, and then resell them at a price almost as high as a new copy. Other websites are usually not much better because even when you can find a low price, you usually have to pay high shipping prices. UndergradBooks lets you save money by allowing you to buy straight from other students at lower prices while still getting a higher price for the books you sell.
What is a good selling price?
We cannot tell you the "perfect price" for a textbook, because there are many things to consider. Condition and version are two big factors in price determination. The best way to choose a price to sell your book for is to determine how much it costs and the buyback price. Set your price between those two numbers. We like to say that for most books that are in fairly good condition and are the most recent version, between $30 and $60 is a good estimate, with $40 being the overall best selling price. Books in worse condition or older versions should be sold cheaper.
Who's in charge?
UndergradBooks was started by two college students, one attending California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and the other attending Loyola Marymount University (LA), both of whom were looking for ways to save money on textbooks.
Why don't you support my school? Can I request my school?
If you don't see your school, we probably just haven't gotten around to adding it yet. We will support any school as long as it has an official website. If you would like us to add your school, click here.

When should I meet to make a sale? Do I need to bring anything?
We highly recommend when you meet to complete a sale, that you meet during the day in a public, populous area. We also recommend that that the seller bring a receipt to sign and give to the buyer. Of course the book must be given to the buyer at time of purchase - the buyer should not accept any form of IOU, nor should the seller accept anything but cash from the buyer.
Do you use the mysqli extension when running your queries?
